Transitions Optical, Inc. recognizes that many growing populations in the United States are at higher risk for several eye health issues – yet often have lower awareness of the steps they need to protect and enhance their eyesight. Additionally, language and cultural barriers can make it difficult for these groups to receive the best possible vision care.
Through the Transitions Cultural Connections™ initiative, Transitions Optical is raising awareness among culturally diverse groups about the importance of getting regular eye exams and wearing the right eyewear to correct, enhance and protect their vision for the future.
Educating Across Cultures Under the Transitions Cultural Connections banner, Transitions Optical is promoting healthy sight to millions of consumers through advertising, media outreach and community events. Transitions Optical also offers eye health education materials, free of charge, through the Transitions Healthy Sight for Life Fund™ website.
Recognizing that most people turn to their eyecare professional for advice about protecting and improving their eye health, Transitions Optical provides a wide range of education and resources to help eyecare professionals better serve their culturally diverse patients. These include educational brochures, as well as bilingual and in-language materials. Most materials are available free-of-charge for eyecare professionals through the Multicultural Programs page at Transitions.com/Pro
All efforts through the Transitions Cultural Connections initiative are guided by a Diversity Advisory Board, comprised of eye health and cultural experts with a vast knowledge of the largest and fastest-growing demographic groups in the United States. Transitions Optical works closely with its Diversity Advisory Board members to ensure all of its multicultural efforts are culturally sensitive and appropriate, and to identify new programs and resources to support these growing groups at greater risk.
Blurred VisionVision problems can cause difficulty reading, trouble seeing the blackboard, frustration or low self-esteem, redness or tearing of the eyes and headaches.
GlareGlare is caused by bright light, either from the sun or an artificial source (like car headlights). Reflections off of objects (like a computer screen) or eyeglass lenses themselves can also be distracting, reducing vision and causing eye fatigue.
CataractsA cataract is a clouding of the eye's lens. Of the 20 million people with cataracts, an estimated 20% may be due to UV.
